Back to the Dealers Again

I have had it with this Puma Defender. Its back at the dealers again , leaking fuel at the fuel switch. Thought I was over the problems after the new engine was installed , only have 2000 miles on the new engine and fuel all over the underside again.
Clutch also sticking now and whine in the rear diff.

This car has been a disaster ! Worst defender I have owned by some distance . Evil or Very Mad

I have way less problems with my 97 tdi 90 with 120,000 miles, that only cost me 4k !!

Welcome to my world!

Really mate I am sorry to here the new engine was not the end of your problems. I know what you are going through, but at least your dealers are trying to fix stuff.

I hope once this is fixed it will be fine. Thumbs Up

Its a pity to hear how many troubles can generate a car Sad
I hope that LR and the dealers can solve that in a proper manner.

Mine, Thanks to God, has been quiet during lasts months. Im waiting the 40.000 km checking to solve some minor problems.

Regards.

No complaint with the dealers they have been very good about trying to sort it out. They will usually take the car within 1-2 days when I call with a problem.

Well we have had 3 clutches ,2 transfer box, Going in for fuel leak over engine on monday as my husband said he wish it would catch fire so we can get rid of it ,again what do you buy in its place we even took an automatic disco for demo for 2 days went back the same day to many gadget, num bum,not the same ground clearence but sales man said it was but try taking that through rough woodland .we have had 12 landrovers over the years this is the model from hell.
ITS ABOUT TIME LR HELD THERE HANDS UP TO A VERY BIG MISTAKE BY CHANGING THE DEFENDER WHY DID THEY NOT PUT IN THE DISCOVERY ENGINE .

Welcome to the forum - I hear you loud and clear - there is nothing else on the market that comes close to the flexibility of a defender !
Fuel leak on mine was a faulty fuel switch so not a major problem , mind you its been changed twice !!!

I have a 97 300tdI , considering selling the puma and putting the money towards having the tdi totally re built !

Sorry to hear about your problems Nidge.I was discussing what work to get done on my 1992 200Tdi when I ended up ordering one of them new Pumas!(It was about 10 days before the road tax was set to go up etc.)Anyway just over 7,000 kms on the Puma since the end of July and all is well.Had an oil and filter change about 5,000 kms.Had to have two door stays adjusted.Had to tighten the pipe exiting the power steering reservoir as it emptied itself in my yard.I extended the breather on the diesel tank too.Lovely to drive and very comfortable.Makes the 200tdi sound very rough.
I did get the 200tdi done up-new cross member, doors respray etc.Still runs like a dream-if a noisy one!The Puma might be getting you down but you have a three year warranty with it.No doubt it's annoying but your dealer seems good enough.Should settle down.

that made me chuckle, but if it was a D3 i hate to disagree in that its ground clearence is better than a Defender, not having beam axles it is far better off. but then stock tyres on aD3 are no where near as good as those on a Def in the rough stuff, maybe that was the issue?
